1st MODEL, US .45 SCHOFIELD by SMITH & WESSON

VERY EARLY PRODUCTION, 3 DIGIT SERIAL NUMBER

PRICE: $4,750

Here we have a first week, maybe first day production S&W Schofield .45, sold to the US Government, and delivered same. Serial No. 12X undoubtedly would have been first shipment, to Springfield Arsenal in 1875. ALL original factory parts are present, and ALL factory applied markings are well defined and clearly seen. The barrel legends both sides are very clear as well as ALL inspector markings and US.

Noting the LP Inspector markings on the barrel flat, you can't help but notice 4 very distinct "notches". Speculating some notoriety for this Schofield !
ALL Serial Numbers and assembly numbers are totally matching throughout. The Walnut grips show normal hand wear and have a smooth antique patina.
Operating mechanics all function as designed. It cocks, locks, perfect cylinder rotation ad alignment, and releases to fire. It does however have a star ejector difficulty, and some times requires a push from a finger downward, then it closes correctly and works 100% correctly
This 1st Model Schofield has over 149 years lost the factory blue finish, and has a gray, with some dusting of dark spots patina finish. The metal is smooth, and remember these Schofield's went through many hands after the US. This one may have been a " lost " revolver, battlefield pick-up, or one morning rode off with a trooper, going some where else! It escaped the surplus sale and being converted to 5 inches and Express Co. use.
