MERWIN, HULBERT & Co., 1st, 1st, ARMY REVOLVER, FIRST TWO WEEK PRODUCTION, SERIAL No. 44x, ALL ORIGINAL AND EARLY FEATURES. ENGRAVED BACK STRAP FOR PRESENTATION. PRESNTED AND ENGRAVED: PRESENTED TO ,RODERICK SCOTT, by ARMOUR & Co. EMPLOYEES , MARCH 15, 1882. It is difficult to actually find historical proof on names from back straps, but this time we know !! Documented in the Chicago Tribune of March 19, 1882 , it details the Reception Dinner Party for Roderick Scott, of the Armour Co. and the presentation of a new shiny revolver, plus a purse of money. This took place on Wednesday night the 15th, as the back strap shows, but made the Sunday Social Page edition of the Tribune on the 19th. I do not think that there is a person in the U.S. who does not know the name of Armour & Co.. A Famous packing company starting in Chicago, and eventually opening up plants in Kansas City and Fort Worth. All were present in the Stock Yards of these cities. What did Mr. Scott do ? He was the “Time Keeper” of Armour & Co. What was a time keeper ? He was responsible for making sure things happened “on time”. Such as, workers arriving and departing on time, arriving and departing trains. coaches etc… he kept Armour & Co. running smoothly. He did this for many years, before leaving in 1882. Considering Armour were meat packers, the fact he left the Company to become a Cattle Raiser in Kansas is not surprising ! COPIES of all this documentation go to the buyer of this fabulous Merwin. REGARDING THE MERWIN: It is an extremely early production @ 1876, with a Three digit serial number 44X. However, I believe it was a production hold back, and not sold until 1882 when presented. It remains in 98%+ factory original condition, with bright factory nickel finish. The hammer still has all its case color. Accented by the scarce Orange Mottled hard rubber grips. Early features not found after extended production are present: short trigger guard, detent pin, barrel wedge, fine curved trigger, front frame tension screw, and the scarce “hump-back hammer and the two screw drop out floor plate. ALL are the ORIGINAL factory parts. ALL factory applied markings are present: barrel address, side barrel address. MOST IMPORTANT: the unique twist and pull cartridge extraction system works 100% correctly, it cocks, locks, indexes and releases to fire correctly, NO mechanical issues. If you are seeking a historical documented presentation, and a top condition early features Merwin, Hulbert Army revolver, look no further. An IMPORTANT Merwin, presented to an IMPORTANT person in 1882
